My Experience with MyBookBox

Thursday, October 13, 2016 | 0 comments

This is my first international book subscription, and I just got it a few hours ago...It actually arrived last Friday but I only picked it up from the post office today.

MyBookBox is a monthly subscription box which contains 2 books from your SELECTED genres. I’ve chosen Women’s Fiction and Young Adult.

I was scared that it might come late, because of my location but it got on time! Yay!

There is a short letter from the MyBookBox team, 2 bags of tea, a cute mug and bookmarks with brief description of the books.

Women’s Fiction book is the “The Book Shop on the Corner” by Jenny Colgan.

Nina Redmond is a librarian with a gift for finding the perfect book for her readers. But can she write her own happy-ever-after? In this valentine to readers, librarians, and book-lovers the world over, the New York Times-bestselling author of Little Beach Street Bakery returns with a funny, moving new novel for fans of Meg Donohue, Sophie Kinsella, and Nina George’s The Little Paris Bookshop.

Nina Redmond is a literary matchmaker. Pairing a reader with that perfect book is her passion… and also her job. Or at least it was. Until yesterday, she was a librarian in the hectic city. But now the job she loved is no more.

Determined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. There she buys a van and transforms it into a bookmobile—a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling.

From helping her grumpy landlord deliver a lamb, to sharing picnics with a charming train conductor who serenades her with poetry, Nina discovers there’s plenty of adventure, magic, and soul in a place that’s beginning to feel like home… a place where she just might be able to write her own happy ending.

The plot seems cute and interesting. I am excited to dive into this.

I have been anticipating for this “A Shadow Bright and Burning” by Jessica Cluess.

Henrietta can burst into flames.

Forced to reveal her power to save a friend, she’s shocked when instead of being executed, she’s named the first female sorcerer in hundreds of years and invited to train as one of Her Majesty’s royal sorcerers.

Thrust into the glamour of Victorian London, Henrietta is declared the prophesied one, the girl who will defeat the Ancients, bloodthirsty demons terrorizing humanity. She also meets her fellow sorcerer trainees, handsome young men eager to test her power and her heart. One will challenge her. One will fight for her. One will betray her.

But Henrietta is not the chosen one.

As she plays a dangerous game of deception, she discovers that the sorcerers have their own secrets to protect. With battle looming, how much will she risk to save the city—and the one she loves?

My Verdict

The books are quite captivating. I was actually expecting for more bookish items, but since they arrived earlier than expected, I guess that made up for a bit of the short-coming. Overall, my experience with MyBookBox is absolutely pleasant. I wish I have enough money to subscribe for a much longer period.
